12. To suit the needs of corporate clients, advertising agencies have successfully modified a strategy originally developed for political campaigns. This strategy aims to provide clients with free publicity and air time by designing an advertising campaign that is controversial, thus drawing prime-time media coverage and evoking public comment by officials.
The Statements above, if true, most seriously undermine which one of the following assertions?
(A) The usefulness of an advertising campaign is based solely on the degree to which the campaign’s advertisements persuade their audiences.
(B) Only a small percentage of eligible voters admit to being influenced by advertising campaigns in deciding how to vote.
(C) Campaign managers have transformed political campaigns by making increasing use of strategies borrowed from corporate advertising campaigns.
(D) Corporations are typically more concerned with maintaining public recognition of the corporate name than with enhancing goodwill toward the corporation.
(E) Advertising agencies that specialize in campaigns for corporate clients are not usually chosen for political campaigns.

I want to go with A.
[quote](A) The usefulness of an advertising campaign is based solely on the degree to which the campaign’s advertisements persuade their audiences.
Thus any controversy isn't going to help.
(B) Only a small percentage of eligible voters admit to being influenced by advertising campaigns in deciding how to vote.
We are talking abt corporate adverts here, not political campaigns
(C) Campaign managers have transformed political campaigns by making increasing use of strategies borrowed from corporate advertising campaigns.
Who cares? Same as B.
(D) Corporations are typically more concerned with maintaining public recognition of the corporate name than with enhancing goodwill toward the corporation.
Bolsters why advertising companies should do it.
(E) Advertising agencies that specialize in campaigns for corporate clients are not usually chosen for political campaigns.[
Irrelevant/quote]

trivikram, if you read the question, the logic should be other way around, meaning, read an answer choice first and then decide whether what is stated in the question would undermine that.
Would you still say C?

I too would go with A. The type of advertising mentioned in the argument is aimed at "drawing prime-time media coverage and evoking public comment by officials".
But option A says the usefulness of an advertising campaign is based solely on the degree to which the campaign’s advertisements persuade their audiences.
A says advertising campaign should persuade audience. But argument shows advertising campaigns have different objectives. Hence, what is stated in the argument undermines A.

If E was "Advertising agencies that specialize in political campaigns are not usually chosen for corporate clients" then it could have been the answer. No?
But actual E is different from that.

In A
" free publicity and air time by designing an advertising campaign that is controversial, thus drawing prime-time media coverage " may charm the audience ...who knows?? It cannot be definetely ruled out and also it may mean it is out of scope too isnt it??
