For challenging 700+ Quant - GC Tests are the real deal, IMO. They are challenging, but not because they require long calculations like MGMAT tend to. They are, and continue to be, a cornerstone of my study regime. However, I am not an engineer or particularily gifted with math. It's taken months of prep to get my math fundamentals up to speed to even take on the GCtests. As I worked through them I've, at times, felt great when I answered a tough question right while other times I would get so frustrated by a series of tough questions I was literally tearing apart my workbook. I could have easily changed my username from 'TheSituation' to 'CarelessMistakeFactory' and not missed a beat.
I looked around the forums to see if others have posted how they did on the tests and found that for the most part people only mentioned anything about their performance on the GCtests if they were throttling them.
This post is for the silent majority out there gutting through the GCtests and not getting 30+correct consistently. You are not alone. On my first 18 GC test my avg score was probably 21/37 ranging from 16-23. Finally I put them on hold and reviewed the notes I made from my MGMAT self-study and came back tonight with a new confidence and a mindset to not get frustrated by tough questions.
I did two tests tonight posting up 26/37 and 27/37 - 2 new personal bests. I didn't pause it, I didn't check answers and change it to the correct one if I made a silly error. This was real test sim conditions here.
I haven't written the actual test yet, I'm not done preparing but I am improving. Through all the frustration I have clearly identified my weak spots (Geometry and Num Properties). For those out there getting frustrated with results not coming as quickly as you'd like, please refer to this quote which is practically my new motto and life slogan:
"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up" - Thomas Edison
Guys, your almost there - keeping plugging away and get the dream score you deserve. Don't give up when success is just beyond your reach!
Cheers.
