Gave TOEFL couple of weeks back and scored a 111(R 30, L 30, S23, W28). Bit upset with my score because the last time gave TOEFL (2 years back) scored 111 (R29 , L 28, S24, W30). Find it hard to believe that have deteriorated in my speaking and writing abilities
over the 2 years. Recall doing better in the speaking section this time around and was expecting a 25+.
Takeaways
- Speaking is the section that could screw your score. Spend a week or two practicing the same and you are good. Recording your voice using your phone and listening to your responses in a good idea. Question No 4 in the speaking section is the hardest and could make a difference between getting a 26 or a 23.
- Do not report your score to any school/institution if the deadlines are > 3 months away. You can re score(if you have not reported your score to any institution) speaking and writing sections by paying 80$ for each of the speaking and writing sections. Have heard that you may improve by 2 points in each section by re-scoring. Believe ETS is being increasingly conservative with scoring.
- For Reading section, starting every passage by scrolling to the bottom of the passage and clicking enter to move to the first question.
The objective is attack the passage with the objective to find the answers. The first 10 questions in each passage should be answered in 14 minutes leaving 6 minutes for the last 3 questions.
- For listening paying attention to boring conversations is the key
.
