TOEFL: word count in writing section [#permalink]
07 Apr 2012, 12:41
Hello everybody,
I am preparing for the TOEFL test next weekend and regarding the writing section, I was wondering about the different information on websites about the word count.
- How is the recommend word count in the question meant to be understood? Is it like the minimum I should write?
- What about a maximum number of words? I wrote 397 words in a test-run of the first writing question... does this have a negative impact on the score because it crosses an upper border? Or is a general rule: the more the better?
It would be great if you can clarify this point. Thanks a lot! Basti

There is no hard limit, so more the better.

I would advise to write as much as you can!!! By doing it I gained 6 points in the writing section
