OK, I took the exam today. I was very nervous as I somehow only managed to sleep for 45 minutes last night--staying awake for 5.5 consecutive hours and rolling around is something that I had never experienced and let met tell you, it's torture!
Anyways, that story belongs to another part of the forum. I'm here to ask about my score report. Two questions:
1) First, has anyone heard of the total score on the official score to be lower than the unofficial one? I'm just trying to get an understanding of (the chances of) any variance between the two. How could it actually turn lower?
2) Second, on QT I scored 44 and 63rd percentile, which is somewhat lower than my prep exams (ranged between 45-48, if you exclude the first one). On the verbal, it was 41 and 93rd. Total: 700 and 90th. How do these scores work? Does the verbal count more towards the total? Because the average of 63 and 93 is certainly not 90.
3) If I may enter a third question, do you think I should take the exam again? I've read several posts about this on the forum, including one which said that at the end of the day, it's a matter of opportunity cost. But let's say I'm applying to such B-schools as Rotman (university of toronto), Berkley, London Biz School, HEC and INSEAD in France. Furthermore, let's assume that I have to send all my applications by the end of November, and retake the GMAT by no later than early December. Finally, let's assume that I have nothing else to do in the meantime but to apply to schools and potentially to study more for the GMAT. Should I retake the GMAT?
Thanks. Time to breath again and sleep.
Congrats on your score! And I totally sympathize with your pre-test sleeping woes. I would like to direct you to this great post by bb regarding your second question. It shows how quant and verbal factor in to the overall score.
I'm unable post the link, but if you search gmat-scores-83890 it should come up....otherwise, if someone else could post the link, that would be great.
Verbal does appear to matter more in determining your overall score. But, it's up to you if you think a month will make a difference in improving quant. Are you struggling more with timing or material?
