Took My first Practice Exam and it HURT! [#permalink] New post 24 Jul 2012, 22:01
I just took the in-book pre-test from the Kaplan New GMAT Premier study book and I scored a 13 on Quant and 22 on Verbal. which according to the book puts me in the 350-400 range. I know that I need between a 690-720 to get into a decent school so I'm kind of nervous moving forward.

I'm not sure when I plan on taking the test I still have just over a year before I graduate with my B.S so I have time, but I am curious to know if it's realistic to almost double my score say 4-5 months from now. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jonas

Relax !! It is just your first practice test and without any preparation mate. Kaplan is little bit on the tougher side. Review the basics - use OG or any strategy guides you have. You should have a fair idea of whether DS asks for a value or a yes/no, type of CR questions, what you need to do for an inference or assumption question. So apart from OG use some other prep material you have to glance through the concepts a bit and then give a GMATPrep mock. Never start your preparation without it. Check this as well - gmat-study-plan-how-to-start-your-gmat-prep-80727.html.

I agree with msvel2304. Don't lose hope based on your diagnostic test. Especially if you didn't prep for the test at all beforehand. The GMAT is tricky and takes practice in order to just become familiar with the format, question types, etc. I also found that Kaplan practice CATs tend to be on the difficult side. Don't worry, you have lots of time, don't let one test discourage you. Good luck!
