I took the first gmat in October. Got a 610 (q 45 v 27). I focused on the verbal section. Took the gmat again last week. Scored 610 again, but with 40 q 34 v. I was disappointed and a little happy at the same time. Disappointed obviously because there was no improvement, but happy because I did better on the verbal, which has always been a weakness. My highest practice test score was 660 before the first test. I bought
MGMAT books,
Magoosh, Gmatpill and obviously the latest
OG. Made flashcards for SC and CR.
Here's my offer: I'll give a $10,000 (cash or check, your call) reward to anyone who can help me break the 700 barrier. I'm in Boston. I will follow your strategy, do as you say and follow your method completely. This isn't a case where you will have to chase me or force me to train. You won't have to say it twice. I'm super motivated. I will be your best disciple and follow your strategy blindly. Teach me! Please. If you want more money, that's fine. But I want a 700+. I've practiced so much, I felt as if my last test should've been at least 650. I would practice questions on my phone while on the T and now I feel like an idiot. After looking at my last score, I thought I'd rather focus on the GRE since the quant is easier. But the thing is I kind of like the SC and CR, in a perverse way! Answering them are fun. It's exciting to answer those questions. I'm sitting at the Harvard co-op and looking at a few verbal prep books and it's igniting the desire to give it one more shot. But I have to change my strategy, I know that. I don't think I will attempt it again with the same content and strategy. I'm fine when I practice, for example, I can race through most questions on
Magoosh (very hard ones) or Gmatpill, but still I didn't do well. Time management is a problem. For both sections, I was down to 1 min per question avg for the last 8-10 questions.
Who is willing to take up the offer? Please PM me and we can chat. I'm headed to Iceland and then Ibiza tonight for a couple of days to get my head straight. But I'd like to really get this done right. The tutoring shouldn't take months, I'm estimating 4-5 weeks (1 month)? I'm still hot with strategies, concepts, etc. It's only been two days. I'd even be willing to move to your city or country where ever you are for the entire tutoring period. But I want you, an expert, to work with me one on one. You can make $10,000 in month for a few hours a day or whatever course of action you decide. Here are a few examples of things I struggle with:
1. Combinations, Permutations and Probability. I can do questions such as 4 heads out of 6 tosses, team of at least 2 males and 3 females, etc.
2. SC- when to use ing modifiers. I remember specifically on the last GMAT, it was a parallelism vs modifiers test.
3. RC- hit or miss. I mean if it's a passage about internet marketing advertising, I'll kill it. If it's a 4 para passage about native American tribes land rights, I get screwed.
4. CR- 50-50. So disappointed with this. I studied the LSAT CR book. I'm good at assumption, strengthening and weakening. But for the life of me I struggle with bold faced.
5. Quant- Man, I think I learn from my mistakes pretty well, but there are so many ways to trick us and twist the questions. I want to understand the concept. I think for the most part I've kind of memorized the "pick a team of 3 males and 4 females" type of questions. Never saw it on the gmat
.
Another ex. on the gmat they had a question where we had to find the ratio of the circumference of the big circle to small circle. The area of the inner smaller circle was equal to the area between the bigger circle and smaller circle. During the test I was trying to pick numbers because I kept thinking the pie would cancel. Answer was 1/3 format. I was so pissed that I couldn't do it, guessed and moved on. Then last night while lying in bed, it just came to me and I was able to solve it right then and there without pen and paper.
I really don't know what else to do. I'm not going to sign up for
MGMAT or any other service and pay them $1500 for their class. I want a pro, such as Mike McGarry, to personally help me and I'm willing to pay for it.
Help!
