Did you ever wonder which GMAT Books are most popular? We did! We looked at our forum and counted the number of times each of the GMAT prep books has been mentioned by our members and created a popularity ranking.
Not sure about you, but I was surprised a little to see the books that made it to the top. On the other hand, the search results included all references starting with 2003, so potentially popularity of some books is inflated as others were not yet available back then. But again, at the end of March we will release the updated ranking that will reflect only results for March.
I am not sure how to best post tables in the forum, so here is one version and also another version with links at the bottom:

It might be a little too basic for highly analytical people but I thought it was an extremely useful refresher for the Quant section. It gives a clear breakdown of the math that is tested on standardized test like the GMAT.

The results are out for March: Biggest gains are by PowerScore CR and Kaplan Verbal Workbook. Official Guide is the leader as usual. This month, the new OG 12 came out, so the references really shot up:

Number in parenthesis indicates last month's position
How does the ranking work? Ranking is based on several variables such as number of times the books is mentioned on GMAT Club forums and also number of times users click on the book title to visit its description on Amazon. (many (not all) of the book titles are automatically linked to Amazon and these clicks determine the ultimate member interest).
P.S. Some of the fluctuation is attributed to the change in methodology as we started tracking member clicks.

Movers and Shakers: Best Performers: 1. Project GMAT by Veritas Prep (11 points up from #19 to #8) - very impressive 2. Kaplan Premiere Program (7 points up from #13 to #6)
Unchanged: 1. Official Guide for GMAT Review is still #1 (surprise surprise) 2. Manhattan GMAT SC Guide is still #2 3. Princeton Review Cracking GMAT is still #15

Thanks - I agree and would like to expand, but it is too complicated at this time to keep track of such number of variables...

If the list is going to be live and updated, this really should be stickied.
Thanks Trying to keep the number of stickies low. Since it is updated on a monthly basis, figured it will keep being bumped up.

Maybe make a locked forum that only has the "Official GMAT club to dos"?
...
Yeah, a centralized location for everything might be useful. That way, the remaining forums can retain the "personal story", with stickied successes, and then work on the "Official GMATclub Guide", which would be based on aggregation of user content.

We tried that before - it is not very effective to split the forum up like that - did you know that most people are lazy and will not go there? The use/popularity of resources is much greater when posted as a sticky or linked from a sticky....

GMAT Club August 2009 August's list is out - nothing unusual really in this edition, just some natural fluctuations. The list has pretty much stayed the same for the past few months. However, in this edition I am highlighting books that lost positions in red and books that gained positions in green.

I have The Official Guide for GMAT Review 8-10th Edition (not 12th ) is it OK for preparation to use OG 10 ?
Absolutely. Just make sure that you get a good overall Guidebook and/or any specific Math/Verbal book.

In terms of strategy, what would you guys suggest for someone just starting out to study the GMAT? I heard Princeton Review is the best for beginners. After understanding the test, I heard that people move onto Manahattan GMAT. Any thoughts?
