MBA interview Secrets : Get into INSEAD
Congratulations, you got an invitation to interview!
There are a few secrets that MBA programs don’t tell you about who gets accepted. Let’s take our first example with INSEAD. INSEAD posts the following statement on its website to describe its criteria for judging a MBA candidate during their interviews:
At INSEAD, we are very transparent about what we are looking for in our candidates. We have four criteria: academic capacity, leadership potential, international motivation and ability to contribute.
Would you believe a sales person who declares that they are being “very transparent” about their pitch? Of course not. The four criteria that INSEAD lists here are absolutely required, but there are more criteria that they don’t list. All candidates to the Full time MBA program at INSEAD must engage in two interviews with alumni of the INSEAD MBA program. Typically, these interviews take place in or near the candidate’s home city and each lasts one hour or more. INSEAD’s Admissions Committee does not provide a list of questions to alumni, rather they allow each interviewer to pose questions in his or her style to evaluate the above criteria.
But remember – INSEAD has over 50,000 alumni around the world and that network is what you are really going to be entering if you are accepted to the INSEAD MBA program. During your MBA interview, you have to get the person in front of you to like you, to find you interesting and to, quite literally, tell the admissions committee that you should join their club. Do your homework on you interviewer and find out what they are all about.
There are a lot of resources that talk about MBA interview preparation or MBA interview training. You should prepare for your MBA interview because, despite what you think, you have not been accepted yet – many schools interview a majority of MBA candidates but only select a small number to join their MBA program for the following year.
