Hello all of you and thanks a lot for your replies.
This week end I took my first serious test (computerized one). I thought it was the PP test indicated by you, but in fact I must have loaded a different test : this was a 150 mn test called "crack GMAT diagnostic test", with only verbal and quantitative pieces.
I could remember your words : GMAT PP test is a good estimate of what your score will probably be (+/- 30 pts) and I scored a 570!... I was disappointed.
But suddenly, like an angel appearing in my dark sky, I could see a small sentence at the end of my test saying : this test is a low scoring one, and on real GMAT you'll reach 100 pts more. Is it the truth? Where can I find the real PP test?
My scores were the following : 31 out of 37 OK in quantitative and 30 out of 41 on verbal, with in quantitative first 14 questions OK and in verbal first 8 (only...). Can I consider those scores encouraging ?
Thanks for help
Franck,
I will join the Praetorian's opinion,
PR, especially the diagnostic test, is not a good indicator. You have as good chances to get 650 as 460. Did not mean to bring frustration.
When I took a test that was made up by a bizarre company I follwed the following steps:
1. Go through each mistake and ask yourself if it is a valid one
Invalid mistakes include
a. Mistakes of the authors
b. Stupid argument that cannot be understood or properly interpreted
c. Problem that is not tested on the GMAT
d. Sometimes I would include "unattentive" here as well since they were an indicator of my concentration and focus rather than knowledge.
Then I would see how many I got wrong and see what remaining problems were. I would then try to work on the areas. This helped to get a much better feel of where I was standing. My goal was no more than 10% of errors, which meant about 3 or 4. However, i would always write down/copy the problems I screwed up.
I hope this makes things a bit more useful
