Re: Tuck (Dartmouth) 2013 - Calling All Waitlisted Applicants [#permalink]
I know a few people that have declined their offer of admission in Early Action and November round to go to schools such as Kellogg, for example, but have not done so until March. There will definately be some spots opening, but there is no way to know how many, or how many offers were made, or how many people will be admitted in the April round, or how many will pay and then go to some other school.
That's the beauty of being waitlisted! You never know!
Or are you going to tell me that you would trade this wonderfull feeling of not knowing if you are going to be in business school or working by this time next year for the joy of already be planning your pre-school vacation?
All jokes aside, I've declined my spot at Ross (with $$). So, from now on, it's either Tuck or nothing at all! Kinda scary, now that I think about it...

To add another layer of uncertainty, it doesn't matter how many spots open up, but what type of spots open up. For instance, after the deposits are made, Tuck could have 15 seats to fill, but if they're happy with the number of military guys they have, I'm SOL.

Bold move declining Ross! Best of luck to you!

Re: Tuck (Dartmouth) 2013 - Calling All Waitlisted Applicants [#permalink]
I know it's a giant crap shoot, but we are the people who obsess over every single detail of every application and invitation to interview! I can't NOT obsess about the wait list too! ;)

For me, it's weird... I'm planning my move for another school while waiting for Tuck to call me. I just really, really hope they let us know good, bad, or ugly before July. It would suck to be unpacking in another city, deposits on apartments paid, deposits to schools paid, job may more may not be secured for the partner, and then I have to uproot all of that. Don't get me wrong, we've discussed it and that's our plan. But it's still scary.

Oh the unknown of it all. #waitingsucks

yes, I met a few undecided people who seemed to be leaning in other directions. The timing is going to be tough, but there isn't much that can be done.

My assumption is that the yield in your specific bucket needs to be low (perhaps vs. previous years) to get a shot off the waitlist (this is completely my opinion).

It seems ridiculous to ask applicants to retake GMAT and consider their candidacy only if they score higher than average...Admissions should be a holistic game, making the numbers better looking does not actually help boost the school's image.

Same here. Was told that my GMAT score could be higher. However, they didn't tell that it should be higher than their average to be considered. I think it's more about profiles (international, army, local....) at this point.

Well, only one post so far... I have to tell you, I was freaking out in March, staring at my phone, but I'm not keeping my hopes up about this... The only thing I want is for the wait to be over! I wish they could tell me either "you are in" or "you're out", and get it over with...

Re: Tuck (Dartmouth) 2013 - Calling All Waitlisted Applicants [#permalink]
got the reject email on Thursday from Darden (R2) so i was really depressed, but got the call yesterday from Tuck (Nov Round), so i am now choosing between tuck and ross. it sucks that i have to put down my deposit two days before Tuck's news just to secure the spot..just saying...

my WL adcom told me nothing i can do so just sit and wait since they got 3 or 4 times of applicants this year back in March/Early April?...i did email her and say i was planning to re-write my gmat anyway in June and listed 3 or 4 updates on my current job experiences (more like the projects i did); also spoke to an alumni but didn't know if she put any good word for me, i will have to call her on Monday and chat a bit to find out; good luck to all, i am sure there are spots open still since they are probably doing this in rounds

Not sure if you got $$$ from Ross, but IMO, you gotta pick Tuck - no comparison with Ross.

You all think that the next calls will go out on the April Round decisions date?

It's hard to say. May 3 was much earlier than I expected for any movement. If you look at the front page of this thread, the bulk of WL admits came from the January round. I think what happened during that round of admissions was that the adcom had to WL quite a few applicants they liked because they weren't sure how many spots were going to be available due to the November/Jan round sharing a deposit deadline. Once that deadline passed, the adcom was able to make some calls a week later.

This is just pure speculation on my part and has zero credibility.

Thoughts on the next date that we would hear though?

The next deposit deadline is June 14, so I'm not expecting to hear anything until after that. Seeing how Tuck gave ~10 WL offers on May 3 (and there's probably a few more unreported) I don't think we're going to see another wave of admits - probably going to be a one here one there from here on out in irregular intervals...unless the April Round yield is unexpectedly low.

Again, this is just my guess - only the adcom knows how much room they have left.
