Twenty-five years ago in this month, Camp David became the setting for an unprecedented episode of American diplomacy—and entered the lexicon as a near synonym for high-level peacemaking—when Jimmy Carter, Israeli prime minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian president Anwar El-Sadat gathered there for a tense and grueling 13 days.
A. Twenty-five years ago in this month,
B. Twenty-five years ago this month,
C. In this month, twenty-five years previously,
D. In this month, twenty-five years previous,
E. It was twenty-five years ago to this month,
Explain your answer.

A. Twenty-five years ago in this month,
Right
B. Twenty-five years ago this month, -- without the preposition (in), it sounds as if this month was twenty five years ago. C. In this month, twenty-five years previously,
Previously is an adverb. It can't modify twenty-five years.
D. In this month, twenty-five years previous,
Awkward construction - it sounds as if this month was twenty five years previous an illogical construct.
E. It was twenty-five years ago to this month,
The phrase TO THIS MONTH is unclear and ungrammatical.
Explain your answer.
The question tests Diction and Logical Predication.

I'll go for A, but I am not sure. The reason is that if I change "this month" to August, for example,I get
A: Twenty-five years ago in August
B: Twenty-five years ago August
B doesn't sound right. Please post OA

B sounds more familier to my ears.
25 years ago - this month - indicates the same month but 25 years back.

'B' is grammetically correct and concise so B wins over A.
