Given that the rate of one mechanic is 1/6 job/hour and the rate of another is 1/8 job/hour.

In 2 hours that they work together they complete 2(1/6+1/8)=7/12 of the job and 5/12 part of the job is left to be done.

The second mechanic to complete 5/12 of the job will need time=job/rate=(5/12)/(1/8)=10/3 hours.

Answer: D.

P.S. Please read carefully and follow: rules-for-posting-please-read-this-before-posting-133935.html Pay attention to the rules #2 and 3.

Rate(1)=1/6
Rate(2)=1/8

Combined = 14/48

Work done in 2 days=7/12

Work left = 5/12

Rate * Time = Work left

1/8 * Time = 5/12

Time=10/3
