Curriculum – Notable FeaturesApplied Management Research Program (AMR)Quote: The Applied Management Research (AMR) Program brings together student teams with executives from organizations around the world. Each team completes an in-depth strategic study in partnership with an organization's management. This two-quarter challenge in the second year of the MBA program brings 80 teams of three to five students in contact with the organizational and competitive realities of business. Each team spends 20 academic weeks (October - March or January - June) for approximately 10 hours per week per person examining a specific company, industry, and strategic opportunity. Teams then develop a written and oral strategic implementation recommendation. Organizational partners range from mature companies to young companies. Partners might be close by in Southern California or as far away as Santiago or Prague. Learning ModelQuote: As an MBA student at UCLA Anderson, you'll constantly find new ways to integrate your education with real world applications. Whether it's through leading a professional club, working on a project in the Applied Management Research Program, participating in an internship, or conducting research at one of our Academic Centers, the combination of academic studies, teamwork, and interaction with the business community ensures that you'll develop: - a sophisticated awareness of the global, technological, and competitive forces shaping business

First, thank you for the effort, that's certainly very helpful. I have checked Businessweek and Anderson's website, McKinsey and BCG are not even among the top employers listed while you guys make Anderson look like a consulting powerhouse. The reason could be that you report on 2009 data while Anderson and Businessweek show the more recent stats. Just an observation.

Anderson certainly doesn't have a reputation as a "consulting powerhouse," but I can see how the 2009 employment data might suggest otherwise. I'll update Anderson and the rest of the schools with 2010 data soon Thanks for the sharing your observation - I hadn't noticed the significant shift in career placements!

So what is the real scoop on these "optional" essays? Does anyone have any insight into if they are truly optional? Or just a way for ucla to let the creative types it seems to attract to vent? Posted from my mobile device

I skipped the optional essay/audio/video part last year and still got an admit with a scholarship offer. And my profile wasn't spectacular by any means, in my opinion anyways. humphy wrote: So what is the real scoop on these "optional" essays?
