Ultra-elite recruiting [#permalink] New post 03 Aug 2007, 00:10
Hi,

I have a question that may not have a clear answer. My question regards i-banking recruiting from the ultra-elite. Obviously all the major bulge brackets come to the ultra elites but my question is about how difficult it is to attain one of these jobs if you come from an Ultra Elite. By comparison in undergrad, even if you go to a top school (Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, etc.) ibanking is by no means a "gimme" in the sense that you still have to work hard to get it. Is it the same in ultra-elite MBA programs? Especially given that GPAs aren't revealed at a lot of top schools, there doesn't seem to be much to differentiate candidates except GMAT (which most people will have good scores) or prior WE.

The question I guess I am asking is, if you go to an Ultra elite, don't f*ck up, are you essentially guaranteed an i-banking job at a bulge bracket? My personal background is in management consulting, and I have a very good GMAT score so I am confident of doing well in recruiting (haven't applied to schools yet) but I was just wondering what the general attitude is on campus towards ibanking.

Thanks for the responses!
