What is the source of this question?
I have a doubt here.. Isn't reputation singular? In D, shouldn't it be unlike "that of"?
I dont find any answer correct here... Please correct me if I am wrong

Reputation is singular, but here we have multiple reputations - that of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and of other revolutionary heroes. Hence plural.

Yes I understand that, But we have reputation for multiple people not multiple reputations for each
Considering:
The reputation of Thomas Paine, unlike those(If we use that here ,it implies reputation of George Washington, Thomas Jef ferson, and other revolutionary heroes) of George Washington, Thomas Jef ferson, and other revolutionary heroes, suf fered so greatly that
And If we say:
The reputation of Thomas Paine, unlike those of George Washington, Thomas Jef ferson, and other revolutionary heroes, suf fered so greatly that... Doesnt it means that we have multiple reputations for each of them?

I am inclining towards the use of "and", which makes it plural. Had it been "or", it would have been singular.

You have single reputation for each person, and you are taking that together to form "reputations" - which becomes plural (as Washington, Jefferson, etc is considered as a single entity)

I maybe wrong, but this is what my line of thinking is.
