Straight D.
A, B and C are out b'coz of wrong comparisons.
In A :
Unlike most severance packages, which ........scheduled to collect, workers at the automobile......
E is wordy and I think "they" is ambiguous.

(A) (B) (C) are out because workers and automobile company should not be compared with severance package.
(E) the last day that they are scheduled to collect distorts what the sentence means.
Thus choose (D)

I choose D as well...
and the scheduled to collect makes it seem like they aren't required to stay the last day they are scheduled but the last day of collection.

No. B) the last day they are scheduled to collect, workers are eligible for it at the automobile company’s severance package 1st part looks good...2nd part doesnot sound good C) their last scheduled day to collect, the automobile company offers its severance package to workers. best choice D) their last scheduled day in order to collect, the automobile company’s severance package is available to workers. why use "in order to" E) the last day that they are scheduled to collect, the automobile company’s severance package is available to workers. why use "that they"
Ans C
Please Explain

Must be between D and E.
D is better than E in that E uses ambiguous "they".

D) their last scheduled day in order to collect, the automobile company’s severance package is available to workers.
Comparing severance packages...
Narrows to D or E.
E has "the last day that..." making it wordy.
D is most consice.
Answer: D
