Unlike other arachnids, which have their nerve cells evenly distributed along their bodies, the scorpion’s nerve cells are clustered in its head, like a mammal’s.
(A) bodies, the scorpion’s nerve cells are clustered in its head, like a mammal’s
(B) bodies, the scorpion’s head had a cluster of nerve cells, as a mammal does
(C) body, the scorpion has a cluster of nerve cells in its head, as a mammal does
(D) body, nerve cells are clustered in the scorpion’s head, like a mammal’s
(E) body, a cluster of nerve cells is in the scorpion’s head, like a mammal’s
I see couple of posts having this question and know this question already discussed before.
But what is confusing me is whether the correct answer should start with word body or bodies?

I think it's C...the word should be "body" because arachnids is one type of species

Answer C.....
yes it is confusing whether to use body or bodies... but in this sentence the scorpion is the key....

Look at this SC from comparison perspective ...
other arachnids are compared with scorpion. Only C does it correctly.
So C it...

Forget the body/bodies for a minute, looking at the sentence
Unlike other arachnids, which have their nerve cells evenly distributed along their bodies, the scorpion’s nerve cells BLAH BLAH
ignoring the text between commas describing arachnids, arachnids is being compared to scorpion's nerve cell and not scorpion which is incorrect.
Hence only C gives the correct comparison.

I would pick C as well, but how can the plural possessive be followed by a singular, unless they are sharing it?
i.e their car, their house. but a body is not shared among the arachnids.

OA is C as you all mentioned. Lets take this question a little further.... what is the correct answer for following questions (These are from another post on Testmagic on same question.)
Lions have scars on thier body
Lions have scars on thier bodies ?
Americans have trees in their house ?
Americans have trees in their houses ?
Monkeys have a short nose ?
Monkeys have short noses ?

The singular option
such statements are meant to convey a characteristic of the group
however, i would pick 'Lions have scars on thier bodies' if each one of that group(ie the lions) had more than one body. assuming that lions have one body each, it requires that 'scars be on their body'.
