C is fine.

D has a problem with this phrase "cured by age-old methods". Who is it modifying in the comparison.

B has a modifier problem. It indicates that methods are yielding an smoke.

C is clear and concise. It maintains a clear parallel structure and correctly compares two nouns, Cigarette tobacco and pipe tobacco.

D is wrong because it is too clumsy and wordy
