No buddy. Dont post the answer. I chose C anyway.
Here is the explaination
A) compares United states to rains in Sri Lanka
B) compares United States farmers to rains in Sri Lanka
D) Same as A
E) Same as B
Let us see C
C is not a great sentence anyway. But it does compare something in United states to most parts of Sri Lanka. This is apropriate.
Those in the sentence refers to some parts of United States.
You can actually modify the sentence in C as follows
Unlike most parts of the United States rain's most parts of Sri Lanka's rains ....
Actually this sentence is best among the worst. However it is a bit illogical sentence.

'most parts of Sri Lanka's rains ' in C does not sound good.
I pick E.

What I meant was that C is one of the answer choice but not the answer

I dont know what to say. I would like to know what the answer is.
I hope it is not E. E has lot of problems. First of all the position of comma and then the clause of Sri Lanks starts from no where.
Check if you dont have any typos in there.
Well I take back the modification of sentence I described about C. It sounds illogical.

Anand,
Assuming that there are no typos, do you have a better choice?
Thanks

The official answer is E and OG-10 SC-193 question.
My original question still stands?
What does "those" in answer choice refer and why it has problem.

"Unlike those of the United States, where farmers can usually depend on rain or snow all year long, most parts of Sri Lanka's rains .."
"where farmers can depend on" qualifies "Those of united states" => Those refers to parts (of land) (and not parts of rain).
So, what comes after "where.." should be parallel => should refer to parts of land.
But in "most parts of Sri Lanka's rains..", "most parts" refers to "rains".
That is why it is incorrect.

That is why it is incorrect. Perfect explanation. I did not read the whole question that's why I am sticked with C E is the correct answer . The first clause describes conditions in the US ….farmers can usually depend on rain or snow all year long and in the second clause describes conditions in Sri Lanka …….but in most parts of Sri Lanka the rains are concentrated in the monsoon months. In US the rains show a consistent trend whereas In Sri Lanka they show a seasonal trend.
