Which is the correct sentence?

a) Neither of my sisters is married.
b) Neither of my sisters are married.

I read somewhere that we can use 'are' in informal way.
Does it mean that both sentences are grammatically correct and make sense?

The first one is grammatically correct.

Neither one of my sisters is..........

However, neither my brother nor my sisters are.....
