B. "no one" better than nobody.

no one didn't is double -ve.

Re: Although the company’s founders certainly hoped that incorporating wou [#permalink]
Well, I am getting confused now on the usage of nobody and no one.

As far as I know both no one and nobody are used for singular, while none is used for plural. Also no one should only be used if its followed by of...

nobody of is always wrong, and here we can use no one of....

In the sentence above none of the options have "of" in it, so by this logic, shouldnt we choose C instead of B?

Views pls

'A' - double -ve - incorrect
'B' - seems ok to me
'C' - nobody - pronoun, cannot be standalone. It is neither conjunction nor adjective..
'D' - similar to 'A' & 'C'
'E' - 'no one, even the founders' - bad phrasing

Here no one - is a clause and no an adjective

no one, nobody, none & no-one - they are different..

Hi,

There is no significant gramatical difference. If you see this on the GMAT it will NOT be this that is tested.

By that i can assume that the above or a similar question can never appear in GMAT, where make or break will be between nobody and no one?

Yes.

This is a 'decoy' - so you spend your time fretting about which one of the 2 to use, but actually the error is elsewhere.

no one said it was easy...

Although the company’s founders certainly hoped that incorporating would increase their profit margin, no one, not even the founders, didn’t expect that the value of the stock would appreciate so quickly.
A)no one, not even the founders, didn’t expect
B)no one, not even the founders, expected
C)nobody, not even the founders, expected
D)nobody, not even the founders, didn’t expect
E)no one, even the founders, expected

Can someone please help me with the option C here?

Thanks for the question. I did some research in the internet and found that there is no difference between the two, untill I looked up in Oxford Dictionary. It says that Nobody find its use more in verbal communication, whereas No one find its use more in written communication. Hence the answer should be B and option C can be ignored.

I hope you may find it useful. Just check the attachment too.

I got this right based on the logic that between two equally appealing answers, its generally better to go with the one that changes the least from the original sentence, as by definition that will preserve the most of the original meaning.

But I agree with others that this question is flawed and that C would also be an acceptable answer
