benpack - I'm sure that properly explaining why MBA and why Owen will carry a tonne of weight in the admissions process. Also diversity isn't just ethnicity, it's age, too fv113 - How did your interview go?

With regard to admission, is round 3 at Owen similar to round 2 at other schools since Owen's first round is an Early Action round?

I'm here in Nashville for the Discovery Weekend. Had my interview earlier today. Very basic questions: (Small talk about ballet and dancing....of all things ) Tell me your story. Why MBA, Why Now, Why Owen? Longterm, shortterm goals. When did you best show leadership? (few things specific to my background) What is a preconception people have about you that isn't true? What is the most important thing about you for me to take to the committee? Any Questions? Look forward to it tonight. Lots of folks to be there. The applicants and adcom seem fantastic. Interviewer kept saying I seemed like a fantastic fit for Owen, so hopefully that's honesty and not blowing smoke.

I saw this on of my friend's page. WTF vandy???? What really amazes me is that according to him, over 100 Owen MBA saw the post over the course of A DAY, and no one took the time to respond to Sonupe. I'm disappoint in this kind of behavior from a top 30 b-school.

Btw, it must have been packed because both hotels they had for the visit were full.

I was planning on going to Discover Weekend in November 2012 but had to cancel at the last minute and travel to NYC on business related to storm damage. While in NYC, I attended an MBA fair and spoke with a representative from Vanderbilt. She seemed pretty adament that I should do an EMBA which kind of turned me off. I am a bit older, 35 14+ years experience which I can see why I would do an EMBA, but given my desire to career shift I feel a full-time program would be best. I was a little disturbed by the exchange and have begun having thoughts about not applying. I like the school, plan to stay in the south, and Marketing is a specialty of theirs. Was that just a one-off vibe or is Vanderbilt really that unfriendly to candidates with my background?

I guess people would rather stay silent than speak up and spoil relations...and I agree that such herd mentality is not expected from a top 30 B school...however the saving grace is that, no one liked the comment.

Live Essay Writing Workshop, presented by Admissionado Sigh. The MBA Application essays. Who thought it was a good idea to ask people to write 2000 words before they even get INTO school? Turns out, it doesn’t matter, because someone did… and now you have to come up with the most compelling and memorable essays about leadership that you can. And then do it again for every school you apply to. It’s not easy, but this upcoming event should help. Submit your MBA Application essay to have an opportunity to have it reviewed for free by the team at Admissionado. Three essays will be selected, and if you are one of the lucky ones, you will have the opportunity to go through your essay with Phillip Herring (admissions expert and CBS MBA) in a live session. You will need to be OK with sharing your essay with attendees (don’t worry – we’ll keep your name/private info out of it), and available and online at the time of the event to chat it up with Phillip. Even if you aren’t selected, listen in, because there will still be plenty of essay advice to go around. Submit your essay to lauren@admissionado.com by Monday, December 3. You will find out if you are selected by Wednesday, December 5. Then join the live event on Thursday, December 6 at 6pm PST. Register Now [FREE!]
