Paul,
I wanted to get you or anyone else's advice. I am a physician getting ready to do a healthcare MBA. I have been accepted to Vandy and Arizona State's healthcare programs. I got some scholarship money to both schools although it will cost me more to go to Vandy. Would one school be a better choice or should the decision be based on personal preferences? I want to do hospital admin. or consulting when I'm done. Thanks a lot.
Mbaldovsky,
There is a big location factor to your decision--which market you want to work in afterward: the Southern states or the U.S. West. Arizona would probably be the better program if you want to work in Arizona, but in terms of general reputation, Vanderbilt is a more respected program than Arizona State. If you don't care where you work, you might want to keep that "reputation" factor in mind. In terms of which school is more respected for its health care program, I don't know, but ask the schools to tell you (a) where they place their health care MBAs, and (b) what kind of salaries they get. The answers they give you will tell you a lot about which program is stronger.
Good luck,
