Variation in practice test results [#permalink] New post 07 Feb 2010, 04:53
Hi there

I have been studying for the GMAT for 5 months, my goal is to reach at least 690.

I am posting today because I do not understand what is going on in my CAT practice tests, my score went down in the last tests I passed even though I actually studied more in the past month or two.

Here are the scores I got so far:
1st: Manhattan GMAT 520 (Q33/V29)
2nd: Manhattan GMAT 580 (Q37/V33)
3rd: Manhattan GMAT 520 (Q27/V35)
4th: GMAT Prep 590 (Q36/V35)
5th: Manhattan GMAT 600 (Q37/V35)
6th: GMAT Prep 660 (Q43/V38)
7th: Manhattan GMAT 620 (Q39/V35)
8th: Manhattan GMAT 580 (Q37/V33)

I just took the last one today and am so disappointed by this score!!! I really thought I had passed the 600 barrier at least, but it seems that I didn't...

I keep an error log and therefore know my weaknesses, I always focus on studying and practicing those painpoints. I study about 3 hours a day during the week and 12 hours during weekends. I just don't know what else to do!

:?: Did any of you experience such a variation in scores? What did you do to come back to the level you once reached?

Please help...............................

There is no real consistency in your score. You have a general upward trend, but even that appears to be skewed. This is likely due to a large amount of guessing.

Is this true?

My quant level is quite low, so I do have to guess on quite a large number of questions.

Didn't think the gussing could play a role here but it does make sense indeed. I guess I have to work harder on the basics...
