I came across this question, Can someone tell me what the right answer is and why?

E it is, I bet this must have been discussed in the forum a million times but I can give you a hint
A) Based on accounts of various ancient writers
scholars aint based on anything, infact their work is
(B) Basing it on various ancient writers’ accounts
Basing it is wrong
(C) With accounts of various ancient writers used for a basis
Passive voice, I hate that
(D) By the accounts of various ancient writers they used
Again Passive
(E) Using accounts of various ancient writers
