friends, i´ve got a question!

when you are doing your verbal drilling (e.g. with the 1000s docs) - are you doing like blocks of certain types (e.g. doing CR for 60min, then doing SC for 60 min,..) or are you alternating your verbal drills like it comes in the gmat (1 CR, then 1 SC, then 1 RC, etc)?

It would be really good to know what strategy are you applying in focusing during your verbal practice. I ve been doing like for a couple of months always blocked sessions (60 min of CR, then 60 min of SC, etc) .. but I am somehow not making the desired progress. I know it sounds stupid , but practicing gmat is for me like in the gym (where u usually do blocks of the same exercise..) however when it comes to the real test it´s more like a parcourt of alternating things...!

I really appreciate your competent input!

Hi,

I think you have better chances to receive a reply in the other forum branch – the one dedicated to GMAT strategies.

Nevertheless, here is my opinion. I believe that what type of practice is better for you depends on your studying style. I, personally, also do the questions by blocks – but by smaller ones than you do (20-30 SC, 15-20 CR, 2-3 RC). And then I write down all I missed into the error log. Also to have one day (maybe two-three) totally free of verbal practice could be helpful. Cannot evaluate this strategy, however, – at least not until I take the Real Thing :)

One more thing - I advise you, aside from practicing the question types, to do one full CAT at least once a week (with two essays as well) – just to be sure that you will be able to perform well during all 4 hours of the exam.

Dom...i usually do blocks . 20 Qs at a time.

hi ....

what i do is =====>

i open 1000 SC, 1000 CR and 1000 RC...


then i CUT the first 20 questions from 1000 SC and paste it into a blank word document...
then i CUT the first 15 questions from 1000 CR and paste it into a blank word document(ahead of the 20 SC questions that i pasted just now..)...
then i CUT the first 4 RCs from 1000 RC and paste it into a blank word document(ahead of 15 CRs)...
Normally the RCs would have 7-8 questions in the 1000 RC document...
so i choose some 4-5 qustions for each RC in the new document..which i name as TEST1.doc.....

Then i change the order of the questions...

ie. some 2-3 SCs in the beginning...followed by 2-3 CRs..followed by 1 RC....
something like that...

so my TEST1.doc contains 20 questions of SC, 15 of CR and 15 of RCs...

This is what an actual gmat verbal section would look like... :)...

thats it.!!..

BTW, with above configuration, you would have arnd 50 tests...

friends - thank you very much for your feedback!!!

the idea with creating own verbal simulations is pretty smart, although you have to stay organized with all the copied staff! i might try that as well, as i think it will help to get the real verbal feeling (which those who already took the test -> loosing stamina and getting tired in the last verbal part)!!

Dipen have you tried the Gmatter software. It has a actual GMAT test like simulation and you can port all teh 1000SC,CR,RC documents to the software.

gmatter has some good & bad things.... in my opinion the bad thing is that you can´t really customize it e.g. mark certain questions ...

however it´s a good tool to simulate time pressure!
