Are 1yr FT MBA programs not conducive for career switch ? [#permalink] New post 08 Apr 2012, 20:50
One of the main advantages of a full time (ft) MBA program over a part time MBAprogram cited on different forums is that a ft MBA is program more beneficial for a candidate seeking a career switch. This is primarily due to the benefits of the internship program during the course of the ft MBA , completed between the first and second year. Question: Some top B schools, (mostly outside US like INSEAD, IMD, ISB) have less than 2 year( 10 months/12 months ) full time MBA programs. Do these programs thus lack the advantages of a full time mba, both from a career switch point of view and otherwise? If yes, then are these shorter than 2 year full time MBA programs, without internship requirements, suitable mainly for candidates who are looking for a career growth in their current fields and not a career switch?

Hi jls,

Two year MBA programs do provide more opportunities for individuals to transition into new careers, however this is not to say that 1 year MBA programs do not provide any opportunities at all. Students will need to take more initiative though. There are costs, and opportunity costs, for pursuing either a two year or one year MBA program.

As a note, European MBA programs on average have older candidates.

Cheers,

Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team
