Visa G with a scholarship ?? [#permalink]

Hi all!
I I recently had an interview for an MBA in the USA (fall 2012). The interviewer, who is an alumn, told me that if I can get a scholarship, I will be able to get a “G visa” type, meaning that my wife could come with me but more importantly she will have the right to work in the US. I’d like to have more information about this.
He actually got that type of visa because he got a scholarship from the University and then, his wife had the right to work. He told me that the scholarship amount should be at a certain level to be able to get this type of visa.
Could you please tell me more about this ? Did you know about this ?

What does your own research say? G visa is usually for diplomats and other govt employees. Student visas in US are either F1 (full-time student) or J (exchange student). In either of the cases, spouses are not allowed to work.

I didn't find anything about this subject on the internet. I already knew the infos you stated, that is why I was quite amazed by what the interviewer was telling me :
scholarship granted (there's a minimum amount) = ability to have a visa that allows your spouse to work
I don't think he was lying to me (it was his own experience with his wife + 1 child) so I should be able to find that info somewhere ?

If you are doing some sort of GA position at a state school, it would make sense. You are technically a government employee at that point.
