Waitlist at Boston [#permalink] New post 20 Oct 2006, 01:40
Hi Paul,
I had applied for Boston University full-time last month. I receieved a mail from them yesterday that I have been put on a waitlist.
What could be the reason.
My profile is:
Indian
4 years work ex in telecom systems
710 GMAT
3.5 GPA
Good community services.
I had been interviewed and it was good.

I just dropped them a mail where I thanked them for the email and asked if there is anything I could do to improve my chances.

Is that Ok.
What else should I do in this situation?

Thanks,
Mohighmin

Mohighmin,

Not sure why you got the waitlist--you have a strong profile. Perhaps your essays were not executed well, your reco letters were not strong enough, or your goals or Why Our School statements were weak? It's perfectly fine to ask them if there's anything you can do. If they give you actionable advice (most schools do not), then you obviously want to act on it. What else can you do? Unless their W-L FAQ explicitly discourages it, send them a full-fledged W-L letter updating them on career and community developments since you applied, a paragraph about your continuing efforts to learn about Boston U (which efforts have strengthened your belief that it's the school for you), and an additional reco letter if you have any extras that you can send along. Follow this letter up with another one in 3-4 weeks. Stay on their radar screen as someone who will accept if admitted, but don't become a nuisance.

Good luck,
