Waitlist Question [#permalink] New post 25 May 2012, 16:49
I have been admitted to Carnegie Mellon and Wait listed to UCLA. I realize they are fairly even as far as rankings go, would it be a good idea to use my acceptance to Carnegie Mellon as a tactic to get off the wait list at UCLA? Or is this viewed negatively by admissions committee?

Thanks!

Hello victoryk, thanks for your question.

There’s no right answer here. What were the instructions provided to you by UCLA? Are you supposed to provide updates or pertinent information? Or, did the school instruct you to sit tight and not contact the admissions committee?

If UCLA is truly your first choice and you would attend if admitted off the waitlist, then it could be worth a shot to reach out to the admissions committee and let them know that. If phrased the right way, I don’t think it would be viewed negatively. That’s why it’s important that you do it only if you truly would attend UCLA over Tepper.

I hope this helps!

Best of luck,
Brian
