(1) He ran the entire 26 miles in 2.5 hours

I can't see how you can solve this problem even with both statements becuase we are left with a void of half an hour that we know nothing about (2.5-1.5-0.5 = 0.5)

i think i am missing something here but here is why I answered C:

total distance = 26
total time = 2.5 hours

last 15 miles took 1.5 hours, remaining (26-15) 11 miles must have taken (2.5-1.5) = 1 hour.

I am little confused. let me know if any.

C

From S1 we get:
total distance = 26
total time = 2.5 hours
(insuff)

From S2 we get:
distance = last 15 miles
time = 1.5 hours
(insuff)

combining S1 and S2:
First part of the race 26-15= 11 miles
Time taken 2.5 - 1.5 = 1 hour
So Speed = 11m/hr

They ask for the average. So C it is
