Hey everyone,
I've been studying for a few months now and my test day was a couple days ago. Basically my prep was taking about 25 practice tests and reviewing answers I get wrong and then coming to this website and using practice questions. For integrated reasoning and essay I just read up on strategies. The practice tests I took were from various sources (Kaplan, Manhattan, Veritas, Barron, Princeton, Economist, Petersons) and I was consistantly getting 620+ with a mean score of probably 650. So I thought wow I can probably get a 620 at the least maybe better depending on the questions I get. Stoked.
Get to the test center and it was chill, the lighting was dim and the floor, walls, furniture...etc, point is, the building was cozy and very nice. Was feeling totally relaxed and I had taken so many practice tests I was confident and didn't see this as anything more than just another practice test. The lady at the desk was having trouble scanning my palms so that ate up some time especially during my breaks.
Anyway, so I wrote this badas* essay and finished with literally 1 second left. No problem. Felt confident and glad I was able to finish. No worries.
Integrated reasoning section, man I had just not prepared for this. Was tricky but I felt confident about some of the answers. Was feeling good after this section because I knew I would be most comfortable in Math.
I click start and look at the first question. I have absolutely no clue. It was like nothing I had ever seen. I spent 2:30 on this question just trying to get any clue I could or use anything I had studying at all to narrow down the choices. Nothing. Guessed B and moved on. 2nd question, was able to narrow down the choices a bit but still couldn't find the answer. Finally question 3 is easy but I made sure to double and triple check. Now I feel like it's giving me easy questions. The rest of the math section went well and I was feeling confident after a struggling start. When I got to the last question I had 4 minutes left so I had managed my time well.
Verbal section, kind of touch as usual but I was feeling confident and double checking everything. Finished the section with only a couple minutes to spare.
So phew it's all over and the lady had told me I can get my scores immediately so I grabbed the slip and walked out. When I looked at it I saw a 590 with 42 Q 29 V and 5 on IR. 42 Q 29 V are you kidding me? What the heck is this garbage I was rocking out 46+Q on the reg and 31 V at the minimum on practice tests.
I read all the other posts about "what went wrong" but this was nothing about being stressed or lack of experience or anything else I read. I maintained a healthy balance of focus, confidence, patience, and inspiration that allowed me to walk away feeling like I killed it and got a 590? What the hell is that about?
Anyone else go through this? Did you re-test and have a better score?
