B correct sequence of tense.

had read ==> had.

yup should be past perfect because he read before he had doubt later.

so B should be the answer.

I guess "doubt + that" is better than "doubt whether"

(B) should be it.

However,

not without doubt = with doubt

with doubt = had doubt

Why does (B) have "no" ?
