Western Ontario (Ivey) [#permalink]
22 Jan 2005, 01:08
Western Ontario offers one of the best known MBA programs in Canada. It can be placed in the "general management" model of education with an emphasis on the case method.
Western Ontario is located in London, Ontario and is roughly two hours from Toronto and Detroit.
Academic Schedule: The entire program consists of eight terms.

FT 2003 placed Western Ontario #22 worldwide- just below Toronto and UCLA and just above Carnegie Mellon and UNC.
EIU 2003 placed Western Ontario #64 worldwide- near Pittsburgh, Thunderbird, Vanderbilt, and Durham.

Hey Tareks, I got an invitation from IVEY to visit the school including a travel expense accommodation. I'm scheduled to visit the school on March 21, 05. Although it recently dropped to #34 on the FT2005 ranking, below #21 for Rotman, I seem to like the case approach at IVEY. I think ranking is one thing but the right fit is even more important. I also have an interview with Adcom on that date. Pretty excited to see what the IVEY culture is and what they have to offer.

I would not be too concerned about the change in ranking for Western Ontario. The top handful of schools in Canada exchange places from year to year and ranking to ranking.
For instance, BW ranked Queen's the best program in Canada for 02 while FT 2003 ranked it #5 and FT 2005 ranked Queen's #6!

Paul- let me know how it goes. As for the rankings, check the BWweek rankings IVEY is up there #6 I think.
Is McGill any good these days?

McGill is not bad but it's always been of lower ranking than Queens, York, IVEY or UofT. I wonder if I should consider McGill because it would cost me only 4k(!yes!) to do the whole MBA program. However, growing up in Montreal makes me think that McGill would be a bit too local for me. I definitely want some national/international exposure.
