Wharton 2013 - Calling All Applicants

Agreed that they were checking for several individual factors and the one on one was just for our closure/giving us the final word. I went last in my group so was fortunate enough to have more like 15-20 minutes. We had a brief discussion about how with traditional interviews, half of the time admissions isn't getting to hear much more than they could already discern from your resume, essays etc (assuming you presented a well rounded package). The TBD allows for some of those intangible skills to be demonstrated rather than stated.

All in all, I really liked the TBD and think it will stick around. As it was the fist year, it will be interesting to see how they use the data, but it is a definite differentiator for Wharton. I also found it refreshing to not have to talk about myself for 30-45 minutes straight.

Now for the wait... If anyone here has ever competed in a judged sport (gymnastics, diving, etc) you know what I mean when I say that waiting for the final score is 1000x more anxiety inducing than any of the prep leading up to the competition or the task itself...

When do we get the admit call?

Don't even think about this until next Monday at the earliest (I doubt Wharton would pull an R2 Fuqua and release the Friday before). If you need to preoccupy yourself this week, Darden results come out today and Kellogg is later this week

I know it's silly to begin speculating about all this given that D-day is only a week away, but can't help it!!!

Yeah, got it a while back- about 3 weeks ago, and a week after my interview. Subject - "Thank You for Participating in the Team-Based Discussion". Includes a brief thank you, and a rundown of financial aid/fellowships options. I don't think it's any indication of a decision- you probably got one in your spam or something like that. If not, I think it is an oversight, rather than anything to stress about.

Officially one week left

I got it last week (and interviewed last Monday). I don't think it is anything to stress over, just an automated mailing that might be caught up in a filter.

This waiting is wreaking havoc on my nerves.

I've booked dinner with friends at a fancy French restaurant that's usually out of my price range, to prepare for all eventualities. If I get in, it'll be celebratory. If I don't, I will console myself with cherry-glazed duckling & panna cotta strawberries three-ways. And wine, lots of wine.

What are y'all doing?

No plans yet, but my night will definitely also involve lots of wine. This will be my final decision, and either way want to celebrate the process coming to a close. And stave off anxiety about making a decision for one night.

Our odds are down to picking a color on a double-zero roulette wheel I bet the house on Black!

I think its funny how every school claims to be innovative, yet everyone copies each other in this process. I applaud Wharton for thinking outside of the box on this one.

Although apparently some international schools have been doing this for awhile...

I am a big fan of the TBD, but you are correct that that Wharton wasn't the first one to do a group interview. LBS has had them and IMD has a major group case exercise as part of its application process.

I interviewed at the end of February and never received the thank you email. My interview was with an ad com member, rather than a student, if that makes a difference.
