Thanks for the link.

What does a PhD in Neuroscience have that I don't? Wait, I think I just answered my question.

Really though, there were some really impressive students and some that were relatively average (in terms of top MBA students). When looking at that resume book, you have to take out the summer internship and then look at the rest of the company names. At first when I scrolled through, I just looked at the top name in the list and promptly put Wharton in the "shot at rejection not worth my $200 application fee" pile. After looking through it again, there are some run of the mill resumes.

Yeah, you gotta google "wharton hcm;" googling "wharton health care management" etc. won't bring up the right link.

Oh boy. Some of these folks have outstanding degree credentials - PhDs, MDs, etc. There are a few "more normal" resumes but there's an equal number with high-brand companies listed...I think I need to do a bit more research to figure out if this program is right for me or if I'll shoot myself in the foot by thinking I'm even in the running.

Cheers,

Haha, now I wonder. One of the reasons why I applied to the Wharton HCM was because I thought I could leverage my career background in the pharma industry and boost my acceptance chances. From this thread I get an impression that it was the stupidest move, should have applied to normal MBA and would have been fine  Not that I am not fine now

In reading the resume book a bit more closely, I have fewer doubts than I did a few day back. I think that my background in health IT is pretty unique - after all, all the HCM folks can't be from pharma/banking companies. Plus, I think that given my background has a consistent healthcare-field trend (even going back to early college internships), I'd be doing myself more harm and coming off inconsistent if I don't apply to HCM at Wharton and just apply to Wharton "regular".

Let's face it, getting into Wharton is a long shot anyways - if I can make a strong case for why HCM is a good fit for me (and vice-versa), it can't make my chances any worse!

Cheerios,
ac.
