Wharton Post-Interview Acceptance Rate [#permalink]

This post received KUDOS
Just attended an information session at Wharton run by Judith Hodara. Very bright lady who said some interesting things:
No increase in applications this year ... complete flat line (only place I have heard this).
Approximately 7,000 total applications, 35% are invited to interview (i.e., roughly 2,450), and roughly 1,150 will be accepted.
Hence, post-interview acceptance rate is approx. 1,150/2,450 = 47%.
First Adcom I've seen so willing to give out exact numbers.

is the 1150 the number of invites or the number of matriculations?

Wharton class size is around 800. So with 1150 acceptances yield of 70%

I can confirm that the number of applicant for Wharton remained constant but the number of applicants to the Wharton/Lauder program increased.
The school is expecting an increase in the number of applications for the class of 2011.

It is shocking that apps arent up there. Every other school seems to be saying they have had pretty solid increases.

Livehard, were you at Wharton on Thursday?
I was surprised too at the applicant pool size being the same for Wharton! She mentioned the app volume being flat when people did the math to tell her that 1150 is not the half of 35% of the applications, unless the application volume stayed the same. With majority of the room filled with interviewers, she stressed a few times that interview is just a data point.
Anyways, I like the sound of 50% post-interview acceptance rate.

Anyways, I like the sound of 50% post-interview acceptance rate. Yep, I visited the campus on Thursday and interviewed on Friday. I came away very impressed. Friendly students, great facilities, and a strong program in so many disciplines. I sure hope I get the opportunity to make the very hard choice between them and Kellogg.
