27 year old - Indian Female.

MS in Information technology (3.81 GPA) from Rensellaer.

5+ years working at a manufacturing firm as a Computer programmer/Analyst.

GMAT (680 Q44,V41).

Should i retake the GMAT? My Quant was lower than 80th percentile, in the 73 percentile.

I'm a little surprised about your quant score given your high GPA and quantitatively demanding background. You're borderline as to whether you should retake the GMAT or not.

Your chances at your top five, especially Harvard and Stanford, or going to depend more on your on-the-job responsibilities and achievements. If they are exceptional, you have a chance at all the schools. If you lack leadership or if your progression is limited, then your chances decline at all the schools.

Good luck!

Linda- thank you very much for your response.

I think that if i retake the GMAT i can raise Quant. I have very strong recommendations from my manager and the CEO of the company. I am a programmer, but i do a lot of process improvement stuff in manufacturing, come up with ideas, am a self starter and have recommendations to back up my leadership at work. The company is established, however is relatively small (about 400 employees).

Do you think i should hold on for third round for a better GMAT score? Or maybe do third round for a couple of the schools?

I am applying to 8 schools- harvard, wharton, stanford, columbia, NYU, Cornell,Duke and UCLA.

You're so close and you have a lot of evidence of quant skills. I would go ahead and apply R2 with your current score. Perhaps apply to a couple of add'l schools R3 with an improved score, but for these schools go forward. You can always retake and reapply next year if you aren't accepted.

Good luck!
