PhD programs are very competitive mostly because there are simply very few seats. Your best bet to make yourself competitive would be to research schools which have areas of expertise and research in which you are interested. If you can find faculty who will resonate with your research interest, they will be more likely to look favorably on your application since you can help them with their research as a PhD student. Also look for schools who have underrepresentation of women and minorities. These schools may be looking to balance out their programs by seeking diversity candidates. Hope this helps.

I agree. Fit is very important in PhD programs. Go through the faculty directory. First of all you should determine you wanna follow quant or behavioral marketing. For exmaple HBS PhD in Marketing is very behavioral but Columbia or UCLA are very quant. My research interests lie in quant marketing, too. Therefore, I will not choose HBS even if admitted to it b/c admission is one thing and completion of PhD is still another thing. I believe your stats are fine, but maybe not for very top school like UBC or McGill. Of course, I'm just talking my own mind. You may even get into UBC if you work on some of your negative points.

Best luck. ask if any other question

Your GMAT is also very important. For Canadian top schools, scoring above 700 is great. Having some publications significantly adds to your chances as a PhD applicant

Thanks a lot for your advice. I have some questions about the publications you mentioned. I am doing some research and will be getting it published soon. I would like to know if there are certain journals that are ranked as more prestigious than the others, or would any published research work suffice? Also, I would like to know about the duration of the PhD program. I have completed 18 years of education plus one year of academic research which has yet to be published. Based on my education, can I get tinto a shorter program or would I have to go through the standard five year program?
Once again, thanks for your input.
