What are my options?? [#permalink] New post 23 Jul 2009, 12:18
Hello,

I am an '08 graduate from well regarded Jesuit University, upon graduating I was offered a job with IBM as an Analyst and I took it. I am looking into getting an MBA with a concentration in Finance as that is also what I majored in from my university's business school. My grades were less than spectacular (3.0 cum, 3.4 business classes). I plan on taking the MGMAT online course as there course/books, from what I can tell, have the best reviews. I will be shooting for a 700 score as I have already scored a 650 w/o taking any classes on my first practice test. During school I did not participate in many EC's other than intramural sports and internships during school breaks. Currently I am involved in several "outside of work" programs that I think may make up for the lack of EC during school.

My question is, what sort of schools should I realistically expect to get into? My top choice, and the school I would go to regardless of if I got accepted to any others would be Tuck, but I understand that is probably a reach. For what it is worth, I plan on staying with IBM until I get into an MBA program and expect that over the course of my 3-4 years here will have various roles and skills (IBM offers a lot of on the job training and programs to develop the Finance staff).

I know this is a very vague profile, but at this point I am still working on building up my resume to be as impressive as it can be, I just hope that my performance in college does not prevent me from achieving my goals.

Thanks

If your GMAT score is strong (with a low-ish GPA, shoot for 740+ if you can) and you have a few years' work experience (hint: don't apply this year - try in 3-4 years), then your GPA won't be a huge issue.

Thanks for the reply, helps to know I'm not doomed from the beginning, that was more or less my plan, work for a few more years, study hard on the GMAT, and blow it out of the water.
