Hi Experts,

As we all know, the design pattern & question process in GMAT is really challenging one to crack. There will be many hidden traps to pull the leg of the test takers. Though it is impossible to find all the questioning strategy and cracking strategy, the successful scorers will be able to guide.

What are all the typical traps which we should be careful about and should not fall into ?

If we start gathering to analyse the typical traps, then the list would be endless.... but anyway we can make this if everyone posts their own tricks , here is mine regarding verbal, do post your own knowledge about typical traps, let us see how long this goes for... This i posted in RC section.. posting the same here.. hope it helps someone.

1) basically the way we fall is because of the trap of the wording in verbal, For example if the passage speaks about 'Human intelligence' and the answer with the word 'Human thinking' will be tempting for us, we should not generalise, careful with those wordings. It is not easier , needs a lot of practice to hit the problem this way.

2) And always watch out for extreme answer choices, with words such as never, always, nothing.. ( don't take it for granted that these are always wrong, gmat prefers mild tone rather than extreme). Often these answer choices without the extreme word would be the best answer, so we dont look the word and choose the wrong answer. I think the gmat test writers write the correct answer and put some extreme words , and change one or two words here and there and make it more tempting to fall for the trap. Hope this helps.

Hello iwillscore750,

There are no real "traps" on the GMAT.

The key are:
Make sure you're answering the question asked.
Make sure the answer makes sense/is the best answer
Make sure you simplify the question as much as possible.

Questions on standardized tests can appear long and convoluted. Your goal is to simplify as much as possible to know "what are the test takers really asking me."

crejoc mentioned some of the traps on RC/CR questions (answers that use extreme words). Again, that simply goes hand in hand with making sure you're answering the question asked.
