4 slides is not enough to frame a full picture of who I am really so I pick one thing I am very into and really try to get my passion across. Doing one topic allows me to really show all that it involves. My slides are not overly creative artistically but also are not boring professional presentation type.

They will be printed in color and one per page if you are worried about that.

Good strategy. I decided to explore my personal things, so I have 3.5 slides talking about me and just 0.5 about work. I'm trying to balance with the essays, professional and personal life.

It's been a very hard thing to do: all the time a look I change something...

BTW, yesterday I sent an e-mail do the adcom asking if I could send in pdf format (to decrease the Mbytes) and they said it is ok.

I didn't put anything about work, the 1500 word essay covers that. I wanted to get in something interesting I do outside of work.

I originally was going to try to give a complete picture of who I am but thats impossible in 4 slides. So I picked one thing to focus on that is a little different and am using that.

I think these are something that will be passed around if they are either very interesting (probably also works if they are very bad). So having something catchy will definitely help get you noticed but I think this is more of the NYU type part where the adcoms are looking for a way to break up the boredom of reading tons of essays. The powerpoint isn't going to be the deciding factor, if your essays are stellar and ppt is weak then I doubt its going to hurt you much...but having the most amazing one wont get you in either.

I am sure most people aren't putting the thought or effort into the ppt that they are for the essays.

I thought one fun option would be to use the powerpoint slides to actually hold something different - make page 1 a magazine cover. Say, "Golf Magazine" or something. Photoshop yourself into the magazine, change the headline to "Mediocre Golfer Seeks Admission" or something humorous like that, or maybe "Golfer learns Black Scholes" or whatever. Or maybe you invent a magazine - and then (and this takes a little photoshop skill) you meld in photos of you doing different things into one background (so it looks all seamless, think of professional magazine covers) like a photo of you skiing down a mountain which transitions into water, and a photo of you fishing, with maybe a photo of you playing baseball in the background.

etc..
