I know that several companies, such as Kaplan and Princeton Review, offer their own unique test booklets in order to prepare for the GMAT. From your experience, which do you feel is most effective?

Additionally, do you feel it is necessary to take a GMAT preparation class?

Pretty much all books are cost effective.
Your price range will be $50-300 unless you want to do this: gmat-prep-on-the-cheap-side-how-to-save-the-most-money-82151.html

Manhattan GMAT. Period. Just do it. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Slightly more expensive, but the incremental gain in quality is completely worth it.

Read them, absorb the knowledge and then do the official guide before assessing whether a course is worth it or not. If it still is then you've at least narrowed down your weaknesses and will be able to maximize the value out of your prep-class.
