I'd be interested to see somebody run the numbers for HBS.

My bet is that they are significantly lower than last year.

You can, I just didn't have time since I was going to lunch.

Lunch? Sure...

I think you didn't run them because they explicitly contradict your "higher admit rates this year" hypothesis.

Chicago contridicts my higher admit rates this year hypothesis. :P HBS wasn't on the first page of the threads, I'm lazy what can I say :D

If someone wants to run the numbers, by all means I'll add it.

I said a bunch of this in the MIT thread, so sorry for a somewhat duplicate post Sloanie hopefuls.

I think this forum is not a representative sample. I think applications are up as the unemployment rate has gone up (which I consider to be a lagging indication of "job opportunities"). There will be differences for every school, but I know for a fact that applications in R1/ED were up at MIT and Duke vs the same rounds last year. Remember, even though Bear Sterns went bust early in the spring, most of the mayhem didn't hit until late Q3 (e.g. Lehman: 9/'08) when it was a bit late for many to put together a strong R1 app. In that vein, I think/hope that R2 will be less competitive than last year's R2 as the economy has improved. Not sure what to think of 2009/10 vs 2008/9 as a whole

I hope the cut throat competition of these last couple of years will pay off when we look for internship and jobs as the economy rebounds and companies are fighting for top-notch recruits.

The # of applicants from 2006-2009 for Stanford were up 55% (4868 to 7536) for around the same # of slots. Friggin' ridiculous!

Has anyone taken a survey of gmatclub people? geographies / industries / basic gpa gmat stats, etc? I think that would be very useful when evaluating the general "climate" of the app season based off of gmat club stats.

GMATClub tends to be very unrepresentative of the general population of applicants. It's not surprising that people with hundreds or thousands of posts on a GMAT-related forum tend to have high GMAT scores and meticulous application essays. GMATClubbers are a little obsessive - as you can see from the subject of this thread.

I'm pretty sure there's a website that has compiled GPA/GMAT information from GMATClub, but I can't remember the link :(
