What is the average speed of an automobile as it travels the 300 miles between city A and city B?

(1) The automobile averages 50 miles per hour for the first three hours.
(2) The automobile averages 45 miles per hour for the last three hours.

I got (E), together they are not sufficient:

If you take the first statement, you only get info on the first 150 miles... the second statement only give you info on the last 135 miles... since the entire trip covers 300 miles, there are still 15 miles for which we do not know anything about.
