st 1 gives allaway 1 as reminder if k^2 is divided by 8.

A. stmt 1: K is odd, so the remainder is always one. Consider 9, 25, 49.
stmt 2: K could be 5, 8 and so on, the remainder is diff, so insuff.

A is suff.

1) k = 2q+1
Now put values for q you will see that for every value of q, k^2/8 has remainder 1

2) k = 3y+2

Putting values different remainders come, hence not suff
