from st 2
p^2-20p+100=p^2
1 equation 1 solution (this is a first degree equation)

That is the right answer!

I kept doing the second equation

(p-10)^2 as p^2-100

There was my mistake!

Isnt (p+10)(p-10) = (p-10)^2 ?

you can check by yourself that (p+10)(p-10) is not = to (p-10)^2 by substituting p with 2 and seeing that 12*-8 is not 64.

By the way, (a+b)^2=a^2+2a*b+b^2
