This might have been asked and answered before, but is it possible to get two different answers in Data sufficiency from the two statements and yet D holds true.

To elaborate

What is the value of X?

1. x+2 = 3
2. x+3 = 7

Both give us different values of X but answer the question

I think we will have to choose D as answer for such a situation.

But I read somewhere that both the statements in GMAT will never contradict each other (as they do in the example you gave.)
Lets wait to see if some GMAT instructors respond and clarify this further...

I've never seen a real GMAT Test Prep or OG Guide like that

Yes, the two statements in a DS question can *never* contradict each other, since logically it would make no sense to combine the statements if they were contradictory. So the question suggested above could never appear on a real GMAT. Some test prep company questions do not observe this rule, however, so you may occasionally see questions posted on forums with contradictory statements.
