What is the value of |x| ?

(1) x = –|x| --> |x|=-x means that x\leq{0}. Not sufficient.

(2) x^2 = 4 --> |x|=2 (x=2 or x=-2 --> in either case |x|=2). Sufficient.

Answer: B.

What is the value of |x| ?

(1) x = –|x|
x + |x| = 0 means that x could be 0 or x <0. INSUFFICIENT!

(2) x^2 = 4
\sqrt{x^2}=|x|=2. SUFFICIENT!
